Do you have your running shoes ready?  Superior Street Elementary School’s annual Jog-A-Thon is just a few weeks away, Friday, January 27th, 2012.  Information packets about the Jog-A-Thon are coming home today with your child/ren.  The packets have information about prizes for students and classes.  We are encouraging every child to run and make his or her parents pay!  My daughters’ grandmother said they had to earn every cent for their school.  My girls really enjoyed telling her just how many laps they ran.  Money raised by our Jog-A-Thon will go towards helping fulfill the technology needs of our school, for educational materials and teaching supplies, and to support our science program.  We do need your help organizing that day.  Some of you already signed up to help on the Jog-A-Thon committee, but it is still not too late to join in!  Please join us for a Jog-A-Thon committee meeting on Thursday, January 19th, at 2:30 in Mrs. Temple’s Room 11.  We owe a huge thanks to Mrs. Temple for chairing our Jog-A-Thon this year.

Sparkle Day! We want to make our school sparkle and shine before the California Distinguished School committee visits next month. We won’t know for sure that we will be visited, but how could we not?! Superior is the best!  Our Sparkle Day chairs, Jenn and Ted Goldenberg, are tentatively looking at two Saturdays, February 4th and 11th to beautify our school.  We need your help with gardening, raking leaves, cleaning, etc.  More information and signups to help on these days will be coming home soon.  As always, we would love any offers to help!

Thank you for visiting our Winter PTA Book Fair - To the Book Fair and Beyond!  I hope you found some good books to enjoy.  It was so much fun seeing everyone so excited about books!  We sold over $7,800, raising at least 25% for our library.  Our book fair would not have been possible without our volunteers to run it. Thank you to Geri, Claudia, Renee, Nancy, Mariela, Lupe, Serena, Shelby, Rosa, Sonia & Max, Rob, Sue, Sofia, Shannon, Meg, Johnny, Kathleen, Kathy, Annalise, Stephanie, Jenn, Ted, Mary Ann, Genoveva, Ruth, Jade, Shelly, Amy, Shahin, Kamaili, and Tamra.  Seriously, I can’t thank you enough.  With setup, 24 shifts, and pack up, the book fair needs so much help to be successful.

Pizza! It was so much fun seeing so many of you at Johnny’s Pizza last month for our Family Fun night.  As of printing time, we have yet to confirm our Family Fun Night for January.  Please watch for information and flyers to come home!  Thank you.

Yearbook Dedications!  This year we are excited to offer dedications for the yearbook to give congratulations, send thanks, or add memories for this special year.  Information about how to purchase dedications will be coming home soon.  Also, please remember, we would love photos.  As I have said before, creating the yearbook is a HUGE endeavor, so we are creating the yearbook as the year goes.  Do you have any from the Winter Program or special class activities this winter?  Please send us your pictures as soon as possible after taking them.  Our editors are asking for pictures no later than a month after an event!  You can send your photos on CD or flash drive.  You can also email them to superioryearbook@live.com.  Please send the largest file, highest resolution.  Yes, you can also send paper copies.  Pre-order forms have been sent home, so please order your yearbook!

Our PTA Corresponding Secretary, Ruth Farrimond, has been hard at work, reviving and revamping the school and PTA websites.  We hope to have both up and running early in the new year.  We are getting excited to share them and thought you would like to know.

Our next PTA General Association Meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 3rd at 2:30 p.m. in the Parent Center.  We will be making plans for 2012:  Sparkle Days, Student Assemblies, Art Program, Spring Fundraiser, Spring Carnival, Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week, Silent Auction, Yearbook, Websites, ...  Please know, we do need you to make all of this possible.  We would love to see you.   Come and see where we need your help!  Our PTA can only do as much as it can with all the help and support of our volunteers.  Every hour you give, makes what we do for our school possible.

All the best for a wonderful 2012,
Sarah Megow, PTA President
and your Superior Street School PTA
